Structural characterization of mesoporous layers using light scattering
The aim of the project is to develop and test a light scattering based characterization method to determine the fractal structure of thin microporous layers with a mesoporous morphology. The polarimetric parameters of the Bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) are to be measured with a 2D setup. Based on this an inversion method will be developed to determine the structural parameters of the layer. The successful implementation of the research objective would allow for in situ measurements of morphological transformation processes within a layer, as for example produced by capillary forces, thermal sintering, mechanical stress or during catalysis.
